Industry Beans is a specialty coffee roaster with cafes in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Industry Beans York St. is an architecturally designed specialty coffee café in the CBD, offering a full brunch menu and an exciting coffee program. Trading 7 days a week, it attracts office workers, food and coffee lovers, and weekend brunch-goers.

The Head Barista will lead the team at York St., maintaining exceptional coffee standards and taking ownership of coffee quality outcomes. Lead by example in drink quality, presentation, and service while confidently managing shifts during peak periods. Oversee bar setup, cleanliness, equipment care, stock levels, and wastage control.

Work with a passionate, experienced team of baristas in a fast-paced environment, communicating clearly with FOH, BOH, and management. Manage the coffee program by liaising with the Industry Beans roastery and handling customer feedback professionally. Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Requirements

Customer-focused approach to specialty coffee
Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience as a barista in specialty coffee, with leadership experience managing a team
Strong experience developing and managing a team to deliver high-quality, consistent specialty coffee
Expertise across a variety of machines and brewing styles
Strong understanding of extraction profiling and implementing recipes
Excellent latte art and the ability to train others
Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Clear and effective communication

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a passionate barista team, providing training, coaching, and ongoing feedback
Maintain exceptional coffee standards, including extraction management, calibration, and recipe implementation
Lead shifts confidently, supporting the team during peak periods and communicating with FOH, BOH, and management
Manage the coffee program, including liaising with the Industry Beans roastery
Deliver high service standards, engaging confidently with customers and handling coffee-related feedback
Oversee bar setup, cleanliness, equipment care, stock levels, ordering, and wastage control
Manage retail offerings and ensure visual merchandising is maintained at a high standard
Ensure a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous learning among all baristas
